Have you tried using an over-the-counter mosquito treatment to deal with mosquitoes hanging around your home or commercial property? Did they come back a few weeks later? Let us explain why it’s almost impossible to properly treat a mosquito infestation on your own.

Retail Treatments Are Not Strong Enough

The main reason why mosquitos are going to keep coming back after treating them using an over-the-counter product is that the retail products are just not potent enough to kill the pests and keep them at bay. Our professional pest control technicians have to be trained and licensed to use certain pesticides that are not available to the general public. Anything you are able to pick up from Walmart or the local hardware store just isn’t going to pack a big enough punch to effectively handle your mosquito problem.

Treating Mosquito Infestation is Complex

Treating a mosquito infestation can be tricky. It takes a combination of source reduction, chemical treatment, and biological treatment. We not only apply EPA registered pesticides to the areas mosquitos are likely to rest, but we also help you to eliminate potential breeding sites and treat these areas biologically to kill eggs so that new mosquitos won’t hatch.

Breeding Sites Must be Eliminated

Store-bought treatments will not kill eggs laid by mosquitos which is another key reason why DIY treatment methods tend to fail. Mosquitoes need water to breed and they will lay their eggs in shallow standing water. This means you should avoid areas that collect rainwater. However, you may have water features and birdbaths that you don’t want to eliminate. In which case these need to be biologically treated with larvicide to kill any remaining eggs.
