Tip #1 Call Otis and have your yard treated by Otis Pest Control Services and leave mosquitos behind.
After inspection of your property, we apply an EPA-registered pesticide to kill mosquitoes on contact and to provide lasting mosquito control results. Treatments will be applied to bushes, under leaves, and some grass areas along the perimeter of your house. The treatments are proven safe on plants, so you need not be concerned about your garden landscaping. Please share the following tips with a friend or family member not currently using our services. They'll be happy you did.
Right now in East Tennessee, we're at the peak of mosquito season, and we wanted to offer you some good habits you can apply in conjunction with our Mosquito Control program. It's helpful information to share with others. Our goal is to consistently deliver you the highest quality products and services each time and every time.
We are always looking at ways we can combat the problems presented by mosquitoes. But unfortunately, a mosquito bite is an itchy inconvenience. At worst, they can carry and transmit diseases. So here are some of the best ways you can manage the mosquito population in your area and take back your summer backyard fun.
Avoid Scented Body Products if You Spend Time in the Yard
Although some scents work as a repellent for mosquitoes, other body lotions or perfumes can attract mosquitos. So the best thing to do is stay away from fancy-smelling perfumes, colognes, body washes, or creams if you spend time outside during high mosquito activity hours. This general means from dusk to dawn starting early Spring through to the end of Fall.
Wear Light-Colored Clothing
It turns out that mosquitoes are attracted to darker-colored materials. So if it's not too hot to cover yourself up, you should do so. Clothing that covers your arms and legs will help to reduce the number of mosquito bites substantially.
Keep Up With Yard Work to Reduce Shade
Mosquitoes like the shade to escape the midday heat. Overgrown grass, shrubs, and other foliage provide ideal places for mosquitoes to take cover. If you can eliminate most of these shady areas you can minimize the number of mosquitoes swarming your yard! Try to stay on top of your yard work, trimming back foliage and mowing the lawn around once a week.
Switch to Bug Bulbs
Today many stores carry the yellow light bulb that keeps bugs away from your entry doors. Using these special bulbs in all of your outdoor light fixtures to naturally deter bugs.. Yellow-colored lights can keep the bugs away and reduce light pollution. They will decrease by 95% the number of bugs swarming at your entry doors.
Remove Standing Water
Having stagnant water sources around your home will draw in mosquitoes. Why? Mosquitoes need standing, or very slow-moving water, to lay their eggs Removing static and standing water sources will eliminate mosquitoes laying eggs around your home. Also, clean your gutters as much as possible, and always watch for water buildup around the house.
Treat Water Features
Sometimes it's impossible to get rid of all standing water, like if you have a small pond in your backyard. The good news is that it's possible to treat these pools of water. Pour a tiny amount of Agnique MMF mosquito larvicide into the water so that a thin layer covers the surface. It'll suffocate the larvae (and other insects in the water) without harming fish.
Keep Fish Ponds Stocked
Goldfish, koi, minnows, and guppies will eat mosquito larvae in ponds. So adding fish might be the answer if you have a small pond as part of your landscaping. Add koi, goldfish, or minnows is a great and appealing way to control the mosquito population on your property.
There are also many additional ways to help combat mosquitos swarming in your yard.
