Mosquitoes can be one of the most frustrating pests to deal with! Not only are the bites incredibly itchy, but they also carry some of the most dangerous diseases in the world including West Nile Virus and Zika Virus. They are also incredibly tricky to exterminate without professional help.
Let’s take a look at what you can expect when you book professional mosquito control from Otis Termite & Pest Control.
It Starts With An Inspection
The first step in professional mosquito control is to complete a full inspection of the property. This is going to allow our fully qualified pest control technicians to identify the areas of your home or business where mosquitoes are not only hiding but also where they are breeding. Armed with this knowledge they will be better placed to create a treatment plan and make any recommendations that will help avoid future infestations.
Applying the Treatment
Once our technicians have identified the problem areas, they can apply the appropriate insecticide in those key areas. Mosquitoes rest in shaded and moist areas during the day when the sun is high. This will usually include ornamental planting, tree canopies, flower beds, bushes, rooflines and windows. These are common resting points for mosquitos and other bugs, so applying the insecticide mist will kill them quickly and effectively. The EPA registered pesticide that we use for mosquito control is safe on plants so you needn’t worry about your garden being negatively affected by the treatment.
Eliminating Breeding Sites
Killing the live mosquitoes is only one part of the process. Our qualified and licensed pest control specialists are also going to need to eliminate breeding sites identified during the inspection to avoid future infestation. Mosquitoes require standing water to breed so we will work with property owners to remove standing water sources where possible. This means eliminating any areas where rainwater collects. If you have a pond or water feature you will need to take additional precautions to stop them from becoming potential breeding grounds. Adding a bubbler, fountain, water-wigglers, or waterfall to stimulate movement or making sure the water is more than 2 feet deep can help as still, shallow water is preferred. If your water feature is not populated by fish or plant life, then you could also use biological measures and add larvicide to the water.
If you are struggling with a mosquito infestation, please don’t hesitate to contact Otis Termite & Pest Control. We will send them packing!
